This work is offered as an exhibit of theology undergirding a former era of pastoral ministry in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. As an example of pastoral practice by our Lutheran fathers, the book serves as a meaningful historical frame of reference for pastoral work today.

The 3rd edition addresses important topics such as the pastor's inner self, the pastoral office, preaching, church officers, and stewardship. It fosters a new resolve to restudy the divine principles for pastoral work with a view toward formulating contemporary applications to the spiritual needs of modern man.
