About the Author


Henri Parens is professor of psychiatry at the Jefferson Medical College, and training and supervising analyst at the psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. He is the author or editor of numerous books, including two with Jason Aronson: Does God Help: Developmental and Clinical Aspects of Religious Belief, Real and Imaginary Fathers: Development, Transference and Healing, The Development of Aggression in Early Childhood, and Aggression in Our Children: Coping with It Constructively. Afaf Mahfouz, Ph.D., chairs the International Psychoanalytic Association Committee on the United Nations, a group dedicated to bringing psychoanalysis to the United Nations. Stuart W. Twemlow, MD is medical director of the Hope Program, director of the Peaceful Schools and Communities Project of The Child and Family Program, The Menninger Clinic; professor of psychiatry of the Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine; and faculty member of the Houston-Galveston Psychoanalytic Institute. David E. Scharff, M. D., co-director of the International Psychotherapy Institute, is a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University, and a teaching analyst at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute.
