Description

About the Author
Tanya Merced, Ed.S. is a leader in the field of educational innovation. She has experience in K-12, special education and higher education, and workplace learning environments. As the Director of the Office of Educational Programs for the Hand Foundation Global Government & Leadership Institute, her work focuses on leveraging differentiation instruction, technology, and authentic learning experiences to create personalized learning for all students. Tanya Merced has been an educator, parent advocate, associate pastor, missionary, special education IEP Liaison, and trainer. She became a teacher of students with learning disabilities, earning her Master's degree at Brooklyn College. Later, after realizing that students with disabilities were not being prepared to be college and career ready she enrolled at Walden University where she obtained an Eds. professional degree in Special Education. Tanya Merced has spent the last 20 years specializing in special education and working with individuals of all ages and walks of life who experienced learning and intellectual disabilities. Tanya Merced's work experience as a special education teacher for the past 19 years has helped in developing innovative lessons with co-teachers as well as students. Tanya Merced began working with educational behavior applied therapies with her son at the age of two when he was diagnosed with early onset autism and schizophrenia. Tanya Merced is passionate about accelerating innovation in education with a particular interest in differentiated instruction, multiple intelligences and using technology to support all learners. As a mother of a son with Asperger's Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, Merced remains an advocate for special education. She resides in South Jersey with her loving husband and son. Along with their curious cat Chloe.
