Description

French text: The study of the Scandinavian society of the Middle Ages necessarily entails the learning of the Norse language. The vocabulary should be considered as a vestige of the past in the same way as the artifacts uncovered by archaeologists. These words allow everyone to communicate direct with the medieval civilization of the North. Le parler Viking is born of a desire to catalog simple and didactic keywords of the Scandinavian society of the Middle Ages. The translations of the sagas are sometimes interspersed with native words, sometimes leaving the reader puzzled as to their true meaning. By collecting these words, we hope to be a first step towards the discovery the fascinating society of old and medieval Scandinavia. Easy access, Le parler Viking is intended to be as accurate as possible, addressing the student to the well-informed amateur or the practitioner re-enactor. Entries, intentionally short, have been collected by wide themes, allowing the reader to follow the interest of the moment. As well, you will find for example, the theme of the armament and tactics, but also the more abstract aspects of this society, such as morals. Fans of the Vikings will not be left out because we offer in these pages the most frequently used terms by these pirates of the North old, even if the timeline exceeds the period of the Vikings, since this lexicon also includes entries relating to Scandinavia in the Twelfth and Thirteenth centuries.
