Description
Medical-Surgical Nursing is a subspecialty of nursing that focuses on the care of adult patients who are acutely ill, have a variety of illnesses, or are recovering from surgery (perioperative care).
The term "med-surg nursing" is frequently used in conversation. Because of the broadness of settings and subspecialties covered under drug surg nursing, there is a typical misinterpretation that prescription surg isn't a nursing claim to fame. The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses stated that "medical-surgical nursing is what you practice, not where."1 Med-surg nursing, on the other hand, encompasses the care of adults who are acutely ill and their families, frequently encountering patients who have complex health challenges. Due to the variety of health issues they may encounter, med-surg nurses require a comprehensive knowledge base. In general, people with any kind of medical problem and those preparing for or recovering from surgery are treated in the medical-surgery specialty. Med-surg is a challenging and dynamic specialty due to the variety of conditions that its nurses may encounter.
