Her best friend, 5th grader Savina "Savvy" Brown, is fun-loving, bubbly, bouncy, and enjoys playing with Mars. All Savvy wants is a Sojourner doll for Christmas, another American Icon doll. She wants to get it, play with it, and have fun with Mars and her doll

Mars is in on the secret that all adults know: "Santa" is just a scam the grownups tell to get kids to be good in December. Savvy, on the other hand, knows that Santa has her doll on his sleigh. Jerome, Savvy's Happy Home Elf doll, has been watching her be good all season.

On Christmas morning, something happens: Mars gets her doll, but Savvy doesn't.

Seeing Savvy grieve for her doll and throw a tantrum, Mars picks up the stupid Jerome elf doll, thinking they can both yell at it and get the rest of Christmas over with.

But the doll wiggles. And there is a little pop of noise and sparkles of light.

The girls find themselves on a special Christmas adventure and are given the opportunity to make Christmas wish that they know will come true.
